I’m Dexter Patterson — birder, storyteller, educator, and proud co-founder of the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin.
Known as the Wisco Birder online, I use photography, podcasts, videos, and community events to help people connect meaningfully with birds, nature, and each other. Birding didn’t just give me a hobby—it gave me healing, purpose, and a mission.

Through platforms like the Bird Joy Podcast, my energetic “You Ready? Let’s Go!” videos, and public speaking engagements across the country, I celebrate the joy and freedom that birdwatching has brought into my life. My work centers around making the outdoors more inclusive and accessible — because nature is for everyone, even YOU.

Whether I’m leading hikes with kids and families, photographing warblers in Wisconsin, or collaborating with national organizations to promote diversity in outdoor spaces, everything I do is rooted in community, education, and joy.
